What is an SVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health & Safety ?
The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) is a Nationally recognised formal qualification based on the Occupational Safety and Health Practice national standards and carries the same currency as NEBOSH Diploma Part 1. these standards were developed by the Occupational Health and Safety Lead Body, an independent group of professionals representing the Confederation of British Industry, the Trade Union Congress, the Health and Safety Executive and the Department of Education and Employment.
What types of candidate is the VQ relevant to? The SVQ is designed for candidates who have experience in and are responsible for health and safety issues. Their normal duties would require them to promote Health and Safety by developing systems in order to comply with the company's obligations with regard to their safety policy.
The SVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety is for you, if you:
1. Are a health and safety practitioner 2. Work with other managers on health and safety issues 3. Identify health and safety hazards 4. Carry out risk assessments in the workplace 5. Determine health and safety control strategies 6. Have no formal health and safety qualification
What do I have to do to gain this qualification?
To gain the qualification, candidates have to prove that they apply the standards in their workplace by: 1. Consistently performing to the standard described 2. Provide evidence of performance from the workplace 3. Demonstrate that they know and understand the implications of health and safety issues
In order to achieve the qualification, the following modules must be completed: Unit G3 Evaluate and develop own practice Unit H2 Promote a positive health and safety culture Unit H3 Develop and implement the health and safety policy Unit H4 Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information Unit H5 Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters Unit H6 Identify and evaluate health and safety hazards Unit H7 Assess health and safety risks Unit H8 Develop and implement health and safety risk control measures Unit H9 Develop and implement active monitoring systems for health and safety Unit H10 Develop and implement monitoring systems for health and safety Unit H11 Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures Unit H12 Develop and implement health and safety review systems Unit H13 Develop and implement health and safety audit systems
Candidates who successfully complete the SVQ gain automatic entry to I.O.S.H.
